In you essay, you have to SHOW them you want it bad enough.

Make sure you have at least taken calculus and have a terrific math background, also, a generous amount of chemistry and physics. If you don't, they will not consider you.

And finally....If at first you don't succeed, then try again after a few college semesters elsewhere.

If you do not get in as a freshmen, then TRANSFER in after your first few semesters elsewhere. Make sure to take lots of sciences, maths, and physics at the interim school so you prove to Tech you have the background.
Remember:
Tech is more likely to take you as a transfer because you are less of a risk, you have proved yourself elsewhere, and they know you will not drop out. Freshmen are a high risk, all these dumb kids out of high school who don't really know what they want to do are the risky ones.

There really isn't much to getting. You must have good grades, good scores and be active in your communitity and in your school. They only ask for a personal statement, and everything else is almost like a formula.

Fill out the application. That's it. A bit of advice, they are not just looking for solid academics. They are looking for well-rounded leaders. They want to see how you went just a little bit further than people who just made good grades and test scores. If you're in-state, you're pretty much accepted. Out-of-state, you had better held a leadership position, played a sport, joined a band, a youth group, or something, as well as made a decent GPA and SAT/ACT scores. It's not too tough to get in, but the cut for the President's Scholarship is pretty tough. They want to see that you're special, unique. That somehow you're set apart from the others.

It ain't too hard to get in... don't let the scores fool you plenty of dumbasses go here. It is hard to stay in though. Watch your GPA plummit your first year if you don't do your work.
